Rachel Platten's better place

Rachel Platten’s biggest impression was made with her global hit “Fight Song”. I’m sure you know it. She’s been having a little more trouble getting her other songs in the higher regions of the charts and her latest release will probably not bring any change to that.

“Better Place” is a ballad as sweet as sugar. It fits in really well in any romantic comedy, or Disney movie, or even a commercial targeting families, which seems to be her strength as a songwriter. A lot of her songs have made their way to TV shows and such. But this song is one of those songs that you must see the video from. Even if it’s only once.

For the video, she’s filmed couples (friends, family, lovers) while they are hearing the song for the first time. It’s where you really see the power of music happening. When people are sitting down to listen to a song, they hear the story and the words come to life.

You can see the lyrics impacting the couple immediately. Their love strengthens and, in some cases, things get emotional by the time Rachel stops by to say “hi”. If you are half the softie I turned out to be, you’ll be teary eyed.

The song itself is as pure, honest and authentic as you could expect from her. It’s also pretty predictable, which gives the benefit of you being able to sing along by the time she gets to the chorus on her second go round. 

Competing with other current releases, it’s going to be difficult for this song to hold up, but it’s sweet. It would work for any Valentine’s day.
