Will.I.Am is back as a juror on British TV, so there’s no better time to drop some new videos. In the last week, Will.I.Am has uploaded 3 new videos to his YouTube channel.
While the rest of the world is thinking you really have to brand yourself in one way only - be very clear about which sound you have and which audience you target - Will.I.Am is more like me. He seems to just do whatever he likes in music.
The 3 videos uploaded, serve a mix of people. “Boys & Girls”, featuring Pia Mia is the mainstream club track, with a radio friendly sound. It’s not a surprise that this video has attracted the most views, because it is the most appealing of them all, and it is exactly what you would expect from Will.I.Am.
The second video is a Hip Hop/Club remix of his Britney Spears collaboration, “Scream & Shout”. To perfect the mix, he’s got P. Diddy and Lil Wayne (among others) to feature on the track. It’s a remix from 2013, but has just been uploaded a few days ago.
I have a strange relationship with Hip Hop music. It’s not fully my thing, but I’ve always loved parts of it and of course, there are tracks that I just love, love, love.
I’ve always found it interesting that the music of Hip Hop songs is just a continuous loop. For a long time, producers didn’t have anything happening there. This is has changed in the last few years, where producers have gotten very creative on this now. But in looping mode it’s put a lot of pressure on the rappers to lift the song out of dullness.
That’s pretty much the thing line where this remix is balancing for me, currently. I love the loop, but I am kind of done with it halfway through the song. This usually means that I have to listen to it a few times, before I like the full track, so it doesn’t mean I rule it out altogether. But I’m kind of happy with the Lil Wayne and Diddy contribution, because by the time they get on it and rough it up a little with their lyrics, this song is really needing it.
Last, but not least, is the most interesting video of them all, “Mona Lisa Smile”, featuring Nicole Scherzinger. The video is artsy, literally. It shows Will.I.Am and Nicole pictured in paintings. It’s a video that stands out. When the track began, I thought it was the most musical of all 3 songs.
Nicole is pretty much practicing her singing on this track with some humming and la la la’s. It brings it something mystical and interesting. It does make it something you just hate or love though.
Have a listen to all the songs and let us know which one you like best.
