Powerful follow up to One Strike

All Saints are picking up the pace of their comeback. I feel like it was only yesterday when they released their first single since 2006, “One Strike”, but that was a whole month ago. So the girls thought a new track was what we needed. They were right. Sometimes, you just don’t know what you need until you get it.

With “One Strike”, All Saints dropped a bit of a quiet storm. It’s a bit of a style for the girls to have these tracks, like “Black Coffee” and “Pure Shores” for instance, that sound so effortless. I think that they continued that with “One Strike”, which was the greatest strategic move for them, because it made us realize why All Saints are missed in today’s music.

The lyrical side to “One Strike” is a definite strike at former Oasis man, Liam Gallagher, whom married Nicole Appleton and then cheated on her. Their divorce has been a clear source of inspiration to All Saints’ music. It seems to also continue on “One Woman Man”, which clearly states the disillusion of a woman realizing her man will never be a one woman man.

Musically, “One Woman Man” is a lot more powerful than “One Strike”. It’s got a darker feel to it and has a little bit more of an R&B influence. The strong beat makes it fit in with any of the other power songs out there, at this time.

In April, All Saints will release their album, “Red Flag”. If these two songs are anything to go by, this will be an interesting album.

It’s the second attempt at a comeback for the group. I think the first time around, the girls seized their opportunity to do something they’d never gotten around to the first time around, so their look was fiercer and so was their sound. Now, they have truly picked up where they left off and that seems to work so much better. I know a lot of people who are pretty excited about their new material.

Because promotion surrounding the new album is picking up as well, the group has also spoken out about why they’d split up in the first place. They fell victim to the usual. Once a group takes off, members get to spend all their time together and you get to know each other pretty well. It’s only a matter of time, before irritations start to become major problems, which is exactly what happened between the members of All Saints.

Over the years, they’ve been reaching out to each other as friends and have repaired the relationships among them. All just in time to have it start all over again, because All Saints have also announced a tour, of ten dates, to bring their new material out on the road. And with “One Strike” they were back!
