If you have read my earlier article on Justin Young, you may find mention of Colbie Caillat. Their story is one that I love to hear about and their chemistry is something I like to admire within this very creative and artistic industry. Music always lyrically paints a wide array of vivid colors portraying love and romance on a canvas that does what it was initially meant to do---move you. With that being said, I of course mean emotionally within the heart or physically in the form of dance. Colbie Caillat expresses this in both her style and delivery of music.
Colbie Caillat’s “I Do”, back in 2011, was a song I could really “conform” to. With its upbeat, fun and cheerful tempo, the song provides a platform for any happy heart to feel and dance to the lively music. Yes, my friends, I was ready to “get hitched”. This song speaks of all the little things that make more sense in the world than your average educational and cute teletubby. Then again, you can never really be sure what those teletubbies are jibber-jabbering about. At least, they are happy and cheerful about something. I guess the best of us finally reach that point of finding our own match and never thinking another day afterwards without that person. If you watch the music video, it’s obviously clear who she is singing to. I thought that beanie looked familiar. Hello, Justin Young.
In contrast, her track in 2014, “If You Love Me Let Me Go”, brings us on a more care-free ride down a road where some want to get off. Here, she sings of a time she may have loved but now is left with the bits and pieces of that past relationship. She wants to move on but is still left in wonder. Should she continue this way or how does she let it all go? If he would only tell her the words she needs to hear then she can move on. Does she hold on or let go? The emotional ties remain until he frees her by merely letting her go by letting her know. Don’t worry, no Justin Young in this one. I’m sure this one is for all of those out there in some similar predicament.
It is without a doubt that I love Colbie Caillat’s music and more so as she works alongside Justin Young. As she continues to move others through her music, her contrasting and cool sound can only be sought after by those who live by the heart.
