To make a perfect mainstream pop album is an extreme sport. There are too many parameters to satisfy, too many target audiences and music critics always ready to find imperfections. Eros Ramazzotti dedicated his whole career to finding the holy grail – mild music for generations from 7 to 77 – while keeping artistic dignity. Sometimes he was close it and sometimes his gps really got to hell, but Perfetto, his fifth album, is what allowed him to reach perfection. At least production wise.
Truth to be told, Perfetto is too long, it often lacks substance, but the music from this album is not difficult to listen to. This is a very attractive sound, perfect for pizza restaurants. Nothing irritates you, no innovative or genius production efforts. This is the music that you can forgive everything to. It is an album for old school that relies on evaluated stuff, experienced sound. There is no desperate need for eclecticism and for that I salute Eros. It means he will inspire some other artists to make an unpolished album that can look nice without all the pretentious make up.
Alla Fine Del Mondo is a great album opener, especially because of the recognizable guitar and banjo collaboration. This is Eros in relaxed country version. Same applies to Tu Gelosia. Ramazzotti is a mature man who is wearing his years proudly around his neck, the one who can relax and pass that chill feeling to the listener. Even though the words of the songs are not particularly optimistic, his interpretation makes them easy. These are the songs that bring you feeling of comfort. No matter how you feel during the day, If you hear Eros on the radio, you will feel different.
Springsteen inspired II Tempo Non Sente Ragione is influenced by electric and acoustic guitars. The recording is very organic and warm. Title track Perfetto is a pop rock piece that culminates in studious perfection. His artistic routine peaks here. Sogno No 3 is a typical radio hit. Big choruses, screaming guitars, strong drums characterize Vivi e Vai – an unoriginal number that does not make you feel anything. On the other hand, Tra Vent’anni sets the bar high again.
If he got rid of few songs, this album would really be nothing less than perfection. In this way, it is a little less than perfect.
