Charlie Puth: Retro Stylin’

Artist reviewed by:
SongBlog

I am really diggin’ these retro sound songs by artists who are prominent in retro style a la 1950s and 1960s. It’s very reminiscent of the greats like Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, and “The King of Rock and Roll” Elvis Presley.  When I hear these modern day performers with retro style, it brings me back to a time that is more intimate in the chase for love and romance.  You hear this in songs by singers like Bruno Mars, Meghan Trainor, and definitely Charlie Puth.

Ok, I’m not so old to have childhood memories in these good ol’ golden eras but my parents were and when I would hear them pop in some old school music of the 50s and 60s, I always loved them.  I also went out and bought a few albums on cd.  I have to say though, I love the way these songs sound on vinyl.  There didn’t seem anything bad about these songs and they always seemed to sing about love in its romantic tone.  Sometimes, these days, I think music lacks that.  It evidently goes with the old saying, “They don’t make ‘em like they used to.”

When I  listen to Charlie Puth, whether on the internet, television, or some sort of streaming format, I get this image of those times… those times of a smoky lounge, dim lighting, people adorned in black stylish clothing.  I imagine the center stage focused upon with the limelight oh so bright.  The big chrome-looking microphone, with its head tilted back as if to prepare for its soon-to-come performance.

Everybody goes into a silence and out from that silence but in its very soft beginning or entrance, the voice of the singer echoes through the place.  Charlie Puth’s voice is definitely one of originality and style.  For his voice to fit that scene, provides a big comeback of a time of love, romance, and its music.

I like just how Mr. Puth puts the right amount of feel and emotion into his expressive vocal tones.  Listening to the radio, I have flipped through the various songs being played.  When I hear a song by or featuring Charlie Puth, I can’t help but stop the radio dial.  His singing is that… “too good” to miss out on.  I think I’m going to go out and buy the album already.

As you can tell by my previous blogs, I can’t leave without providing you a treat for your ears.  Here is his song, One Call Away.
