Hilary Duff is turning a new page

Hilary Duff has recently released an EDM cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Little Lies". Big mistake. Just when I thought she was really on to something with the Kylie Minogue sound-alike, "Sparks", and the catchy, "My Kind", she goes and covers one of my favorite Fleetwood Mac songs.  The crazy thing about her cover is that I actually like the music of it. If she'd chosen to sing something else on it, I think it could've turned me into a bit of a fan. The music actually reveals a more underground, edgier dance sound than any of her other tracks.  Altogether, Hilary Duff is not exactly an artist who has remained in one genre. Even though she stays safely in the comfort zone of mainstream pop, she has jumped from a teeny pop sound to the Natalie Imbruglia type of pop rock, to dance-pop, but 'Little Lies' is a pretty heavy bassed dance track. Without any pop mixture to it. I find these combinations pretty interesting, because Hilary has got a thin light pop vocal, like me, and it's a bit risky to combine it with something so heavy. It make you sound so much weaker as a singer, which is what I also hear at the beginning of her song. Later in the song, I get used to it a little more and I'm even beginning to think she's getting away with it. The new sound is something her regular fanbase is also having to get used to. Three weeks ago, she started teasing the song on YouTube, followed by a full audio upload, but the track is getting a lot less views than her other material. This is actually a far stretch from the commotion "Sparks" caused, for which fans demanded new videos, until finally, her third attempt got the, much sought after, fan approval. I wonder though, if an official video for "Little Lies" will boost the interest. Even the press has been a bit mixed about it. You can really say that she's put her own spin on the, but even Billboard says she has made some "odd choices" in it.  Pop fans will probably have to give this record a couple of spins for it to make sense, but perhaps dance fans are much quicker in their appreciation. Either way, the main issue I have with it, is why on earth didn't she just write some original lyrics to this beat? It would've worked so much better.
