The Corrs Like they’ve never been gone

When you listen to The Corrs’ album, “White Light”, you can’t imagine this group has been gone for about 10 years.

As usual, the songs balance stories to listen to and hooks you immediately sing along with. This makes their comeback album easy to listen to and really gives you the feeling they’ve never been gone in the first place.

The group took a break in order to explore solo careers and other career opportunities, such as acting. Some took a moment to enjoy the important things in life, like marriage and kids. But they wanted to reunite especially to show their kids the magic that happens when they are the band The Corrs, not just brothers and sisters.

In their music, now, they still mix romantic poetic contemporary pop with Irish folk music, but there’s even a little bit of country to detect in “Stay”, which sounds like it could be remixed by Avicii at any time. Though, even an Avicii remix, couldn’t take away the fact that The Corrs is still very much intended for the hopeless romantics.

Of course “Stay” already is a remake of “Stay With Me” (or vice versa). “Stay With Me” is the same song as a ballad, that is the album’s  closing track.

The vocal harmonies, the group is known for, are again well used on many songs and of course, this album, too, contains one typical Irish folk instrumental, “Gerry’s Reel”, that gets you up on your feet and imitate the Irish folk dances you’d see in movies or travel shows on TV.

“White Light” is doing pretty well across Europe, even though the lead single “Bring On The Night” seemed to have trouble reaching charts across the continent.

“I Do What I Like”, “White Light”, “Stay”, “Unconditional”, as well as the instrumental “Gerry’s Reel”, provide well needed diversion on the track listing with an upbeat tone and burst of energy. “Harmony” and “Ellis Island” is storytelling in its true form, what you would expect from folk songs.

The single “Bring On The Night” will sweep you away, like many other songs on this album. What you’d even expect from The Corrs.

The album is about life and love, with ups and downs. The Corrs are not the band from their high days of success. There’s a sense of maturity and growth on this album. That’s the only sign of their hiatus and opportunities to explore things outside of the band. Some lyrics, I think, refer to kids (“Kiss Of Life”) and life lessons. The up-tempo songs still have the same hit potential that we know from their classics, such as “Breathless” and “What Can I Do”. They picked up where they left off.
