Taylor dropped the music video of Out of the Woods, her sixth single from her fifth album 1989, during Dick Clark's 2016 New Year's Rockin Eve. It is my favorite song from her ever since she changed her style from country princess to a pop icon. Out of the Woods has this expansive chorus that reminds me of the feeling of watching a closing sequence of an 80’s John Hughes’ movie. Lyrics are paired with Swift’s overflowing confidence while asking the question “Are we out of the woods yet? Are we in the clear yet?” over and over again. I love how she tries to capture the vibe of a different genre without losing her talent and magic in writing influential lyrics. The synthesizers and stacked drums gave the song a powerful energy that literally gave me what Taylor wants to imply on the track. While other lovers are trying to fight for a love to have a happily ever after forever, the song tries to teach me about relationships who are struggling to surpass today and make it to next week. And that is what a song should be, to handle issues that are not usually discussed but is happening in real life. Taylor made a good example of it by creating a song about a dubious intimacy between two people and presenting a heartfelt image.
