Yew Haiku’s latest release “Psy and Cygnet” is an experimental and intricate EP for those looking for an indie/bedroom pop dream. This 3 track EP, recorded and released during the pandemic, and singer/songwriter Fuschia Smith has blown us away to say the least.
Reminiscent of artists like Soccer Mommy and Snail Mail in the catchiness and mood of the vocals, with a whimsical feeling reminiscent of Fleet Foxes, the first two tracks on this EP are ambient and beautiful. A walk through an enchanted forest is the best way I can articulate the encapsulating and dynamic EP. Smith’s ability to seamlessly flow through not only each track, but the entirety of the EP is truly impressive. The contrast between the title track and “Pax Parallex” is not at all jarring, and shows her extreme diversity in not only her writing, but her performance.
Smith, alongside producer Brian Squillace have brought their A game with their first release. We can’t wait to see more from the duo, and have very high hopes for more amazing music from Yew Haiku in the future!
