We got the opportunity to chat with Mauricio Flores Sánchez about his upcoming release "We Will Fight For Us" scheduled to hit all streaming platforms on May 22, 2020. This community generating, empowering anthem is one you certainly don't want to miss! Read on to learn more about Purple Tone Flower's music career, his inspirations and plans for the future.
Who is your biggest musical inspiration? Why?I love the Rock, Blues, and Funk. Here are my main inspirations. This kind of music is my reference for creating, I love to play guitar, and these styles inspired me to play without stop. I think they are styles done for guitar players and I enjoy it a lot. I don’t have a mentor or only one person or artist who inspired me to create music. Different artists have inspired me through different times in my life. For example, when I was a teenager, Slash inspired me to play the guitar. Nowadays, Mark Ronson, Danger Mouse, and Brian Eno in the way they producing bands and songs, and John Mayer and Lenny Kravitz in the way they compose, play, and produce their music and I really admire the work of engineers like Tchad Blake, Andrew Scheps and Jacquire King.
What is your favorite part of being a musician?Composing and producing is what I love. I’m in charge of all process of productions of the songs. For example, I always start with the guitar riff and then the vocal melodies. I record the guitar, program the drums, record the first lines of bass, record the vocals and mix and master the firsts versions. I love this production process. I love to get control of the creative process all the time and I enjoy it a lot.
When it comes to inspiration, do you wait for it to strike or do you treat your creative process like standard 9-5 meaning you show up regardless if inspiration is present?I think the inspiration comes to you, but also I think we can do some things for stimulating it. I’m always attentive if new ideas come to me and if it happens, I try to record it immediately. I have a bank of ideas recorded, lyrics, riffs, rhythm, sounds, etc. All of these are waiting for more work. If I don't have the inspiration in a specific moment I have this folder to listen and I decide what I'd like to work in deep.
What has been your most memorable experience (live performance, collaboration, etc) as a musician thus far? What made it the most memorable for you?I remember when we opened a show for 2 members of Pendragon (Progressive Rock band). That was in a little bar of Santiago, I was a bass player in my progressive rock band called AngulArt, I remember that show because we were promoting our first album and it was really great opened the show for they because of they were a referent band for me at that moment.
What is your earliest musical memory?Wow!, great question. I think is when I was 5 years old. I remember a little keyboard with color keys. I remember I learned songs through the colors and I loved it! I still remember that piano!
What do you want people to know about your latest release?I hope people dancing, singing and enjoy the song a lot. It’s a song done for this, but I’d like the people to know about the meaning of the song for me and they could interpret for themselves and hopefully encourage them to fight for their beliefs. "We will fight for us" is a song about a collapsing system. The song is an invitation to another place, to start again from scratch, to break the walls of your fears and to be free, to cross the lines of our systems and our mental structures. The song is about many people that think in the same way, people who want to change the world, to create a new fair world, and invites you to cross the line to make it. It's an invitation to escape from your old system of beliefs to create a new reality. I believe it’s the moment to questions us what kind of world we want to build or re-built for us because it seems that the one we have built has not worked well and we should fight for this. I think we should fight for us, for our dreams, for our families, for a better society and better life quality. There are many things to fight for and I think that exist better realities to create. I think is the moment and is the responsibility of each one to do it.
What are your plans for the future?This is only the beginning for me. The third single will be released at the beginning of July and the EP with 5 songs will be released in mid-August. Then I want to release some acoustic sessions, I’m planning live streams for the end of the year and new songs for the next year.
