SundaySpotlight: King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard
Consider this list of top 10 albums of King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard as an explanation of why they are not only ome of the most prolific bands ever, but also one of the hottest potatoes on the music scene now.
10 - I'm In Your Mind Fuzz (2014)
I'm In Your Mind Fuzz has a great album cover and few frenetic songs, but when compared to the materials that succeeded it, it becomes clear that this record was just a workout for psychedelic garage hard rock madness that will follow. Here we can see many themes that will convert into whole albums, and the sound was just a zygot of a rock beast.
9 - Willoughby's Beach (2011)
This EP shows how crazy they were at the beginning of their career. They got addicted to the classic garage rock on the trace of Black Lips, yet sporadic heavy tones were a herald that the band is not interesting in making equallized albums. The opening track Danger $$$ is influenced by The Hives, while Let It Bleed is a true indie rock number. Not eclectic enough, but solid album for the onset of a career.
8 -Paper Machet Dream Balloon (2015)
Retro psychedelic pop sound mostly based on three minute songs brought necessary refreshment to modern psychedelic scene that was becoming prosaic. This is one of their most mirthful and most rhytmyc albums, which you can hear in Bone, Paper Mache Dream Balloon and N.G.R.I. (Bloodstain).
7 - Sketches of Brunswick East (2017)
Almost every album of The Lizards has a dominant theme developed through songs. For Sketches of Brunswick East, it was jazz and they asked Mild High Club for help. This is where the band grew a lot, which was felt on their subsequent releases, especially when it comes to improvizations. By connecting Melbourne with Miles Davis, Gizzard's have shown that the sky is the limit for them. Whatever they make, it will sound good.
6 - Gumboot Soup (2017)
Their latest album was based on the formula "a little bit of everything". Throughout the year, they obviously piled up a lot of songs that did not fit on any of the other albums, so they have found their place in the melting pot of Gumboot Soup. The album is the most diverse record of their career and it includes few stellar jams such as Beginner's Luck, The Great Chain Of Being and All Is Known).
5 - Float Along - Fill Your Lungs (2013)
The moment when everyone started expecting big things from The King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard was when Float Along Fill Your Lungs came out. The opening six minute long number Head On / Pill is one of the best songs in their discography, frenetic and full of syncopated transitions, but simultaniously melodic. The rest of the album is a bit more easy, yet everything is in the sphere of garage psychedelic.
4 - Flying Microtonal Banana (2017)
The first album in 2017 presented the band in a new light, the one in whicn they experimented with tonality. Flying Microtonal Banana had that something which gave the band a leap into the popularity, and that something was Rattlesnake, their most recognizible song to date. The whole album recalls the spirits of the bands from late 60s and early 70s, so it comes as no surprise that it became one of the fan favorites.
3 - 12 Bar Bruise (2012)
Debuts are usually remembered, and in the case of King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizzard, we can say that thei first album was solid, with few instant kicks. It gave us a hint of their experimental method of recording. After a normal beginning, the album turned into a set of bombastic culminations.
2 - Polygonwanaland (2017)
Band's fourth album in 2017 was shared for free, and when the official sites broke down, they started sharing it in any possible way. Musically, Polygomwanaland was influenced by South American psychedelic music, and Crumbling Castle turned out to be a pinnacle of their works in 2017.
1 - Nonagon Infinity ( 2016)
Creative peak came with the band's eight studio album where prog-rock sound gained hit-like faculty, and everything connected into an energetic missile launched into the sonic stratosphere. The album unfolds with brilliant Robot Stop and it takes us through the band's introguing audio vision. Do not listen to this album while driving, cause you will definitly speed up more than it's allowed.
