Disclaimer: Consider following review as a double review, rather than a battle between two EPs. There are not easy to compare, anyway.
Buscabulla
Buscabulla is a Puerto-Rican duo residing in Brooklyn formed by Raquel Berrios and Luis Alfredo Del Valle. Their sonic maneuvers onset in the wide boundaries of electronic and it is predominantly chillwave with intermitent injections of synths. So, we get a dreamy and relaxing ambience.
Special exotic of their music expression is provided by Carrebian influences of salsa and bolero. As their title suggests, this is their second EP and they have already stretched their sound with attractive latino psychedelic and disco. Tartaro might be a paragon of this amalgamation, while psychedelic electropop rules on the closing track Frio. Here, they are supported by Helado Negro. My personal favorite is Titan, a hypnotic melody with killer beats and vocal that mesmerizes from the get-go. Pedron is seducing with charm and invites you to the dancefloor.
If you didn’t discover them by now, pay attention to Buscabulla. I guarantee you will not be dissapointed.
Fatima Yamaha:
No! Fatima Yamaha is not the name of some mysterious Japanese author as one might think. It is a project of of electronic producer and DJ Bas Bron. This Dutch fella is known for dropping releases under pseudonims. It’s his fetish, you might say. His most famous single is You’ve Got The Love released under the name Bastian. Over the past years, he has been active as Fatima Yamaha and he is collecting praises once again, both among the critics and the audience.
After long-play album Imaginary Lines from 2015, we got an EP titled Araya. This mix represents the real attack on the danefloors across the globe. Title track unfold the adventure and it is a remarkable club hit with cosmic synths and party atmosphere. Piayes Beach Bar and Grill is his electro-funk vision that containt influences of Kraftwerk and Joy Division. The short play is closed by Romantic Bureaucracy, an interesting game between synths and classic, jazz piano sound.
If you are a fan of Jean Michel Jarre and Tod Terje, give a chance to this EP.
