COVERLAND Vol.25: Get Lucky

Let's move the Coverland series to present day. This time I’m gonna present you the cover of Daft Punk’s 2013 international mega hit “Get Lucky,” which the band recorded featuring Pharrell Williams. The song was co-written by the French duo, Williams, and Nile Rodgers, and was the lead single from Daft Punk’s fourth studio album “Random Access Memories.” Williams, who wrote the lyrics, said that the song is about the fortune of connecting with someone, as well as sexual chemistry. Get Lucky was released as a digital download on 19 April 2013 and immediately reached the top ten in the music charts of over 32 countries, and has sold more than 9.3 million copies, making it one of the best-selling songs of all time. The song won awards for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards. Several days prior to the release, the single had been leaked and broadcasted on various radio stations. In the United Kingdom, the song joined the playlists of BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 6 Music. After the official release of the song, Williams performed "Get Lucky" live for the first time at an HTC One launch party in Brooklyn.

The song was covered many times since its release. It is also featured in the video game Just Dance 2014 and is also included is on the video game soundtrack for NBA 2K14. Of all the reworks, among which many are parodies, the cover version by the U.K. indie folk band Daughter is one of the more original ones. They recorded it live for BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge. Almost completely avoiding the rhythmic dance character of the original arrangement, this rendition is floating in a reverbed cinematic atmosphere with Elena Tonra’s sexy voice and interpretation giving the song a gentle touch. It’s a fine spin to an already great song.
