Ska punk boys from Florida known as Less Than Jake have once again skillfuly intersected downtempo ska rhythyms, midtempo punk=rock and relatable positive lyrics embelished with simplicity of good teenage pathethic romance. Probably, by reading this, you are questioning whether you will have a penchant for such an amalgam, and I honestly hope the following review will be persuasive enough to force to give Less Than Jake a chance.
While Chris is still responsible for the upbeat sections, bass player Roger has never sounded better in laid back and approachable tracks. Just give a listen to Whatever The Weather and Welcome To My Life.
It's out of my hands These too heavy times No matter the weather I'll never waver It's out of my hands These too heavy times No matter the weather I'll never waver Never waver
The whole record title Sound The Alarm sounds very modern, but less polished than their last full-length studio effort See The Light. Sonically, everything is both familiar and fresh at the same time. Melodies and instruments are set on fire. The lyrics might seem superficial and generic at the first sight, but just because something is close, candid and relatable does not make it quotidian. Poetry migth not be elusive and ambiguous, but it is at least deeply honest.
Welcome to my life, so set to say I'm sorry to everybody Sorry it's almost automatic, I mean well but I lose it in the static Big plans but they always go up in smoke Too bad I didn't take a minute To make the most of every day while I was in it So sad I'm gonna end up alone
Even this EP is only three or four songs away from the full-length album, this is a great extened play that managed to capture the moment of inspiration.
