Mystic Bowie is a reggae songwriter/singer. A native of Jamaica, he is also a local celebrity here in Connecticut sharing his reggae roots at local venues. He is known world wide as one of the lead vocalists for the Tom Tom Club, performing with this group for over twenty years since 1996.
On a personal note, this past summer I was fortunate to be invited to perform for a cancer event in Connecticut and had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Mystic. He is the real deal regarding being dedicated to community and sharing his musicality for charitable causes. Bowie has also been committed to sharing the art of music beyond the stage, establishing the Mystic Bowie Cultural Center in 1991, and was awarded Cerfticiates of Special Recognition from the Overseas Maroon Council and the Accompong Primary and Junior High School in Jamaica for his community service efforts.
Mystic has performed throughout the world with a variety of music groups from funk to rock. He currently performs with his new band, most notably with the B52s. Talking Dreads whose genre is reggae-Caribbean remakes of Talking Heads songs.
Talking Dreads was the brainchild of "Head Dread" Mystic Bowie, who selected the songs with the idea that harcore Talking Heads fans would love to hear their favorite tunes morphed into an Island groove Caribbean fusion. With is close relationship with Chris Franz and Tina Weymouth who are both founding members of Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club, this relationship and his love for their music inspired him to infuse the Rhode Island art school sound with a Caribbean groove. Kudos to Mystic Bowie for this reggae tribute of the Talking Heads top hits.
