Nick Cave is a cool guy - cool as a jazz cat can be, although he has nothing to do with jazz. That’s why this totally weird combination of musicians isn’t actually too weird. Of course, I could never imagine Charlie Haden, Toots Thielemans, David Sanborn and Nick Cave together but once I saw this video it all seemed so natural. Both Haden and Cave have been involved in diverse genres throughout their respective careers, and they both are inclined to experimentation, so those things are surely a factor in the spontaneity of this unusual collaboration. But perhaps the main binding force is the music of Jimi Hendrix, who has influenced musicians all across the genres, including these guys on stage. Enjoy!
