A Very Special New Basement Band

Bob Dylan. Need I say more? Well even though this one isn't about the legend, it does have a very special connection to him. Following a motorcycle accident in 1967, Bob Dylan retreated to his house in upstate New York to record what would be known as the original basement tapes. Forty-seven years later, a selection of hand written lyrics surfaced that were never made into songs. In 2014 a music producer named T Bone Burnette gathered together a few of today's finest musicians to create music for these long-lost lyrics. These musicians included Marcus Mumford (my personal favorite), Elvis Costello, Jim James, and Rhiannon Giddens. In the effort to keep tradition, these musicians actually retreated to their own musical basement where they created beautiful music for these lyrics.

Not too many people know of The New Basement Tapes. Since the band is together for the main purpose of making music for these lyrics they aren't quite established as what one might call a band. I fear that my generation isn't able to appreciate the true beauty of music with what is being produced today. Now I am not one to bad mouth any specific music, I most definitely appreciate even the effort of creating something to call music. The only thing that discourages me is the fact that not many people in my age-range are familiar with this world of music. It is simply a shame.

I really want people to recognize this band. It is such a cool way to listen to some of the lyrics produced by one of the greats. They carry the rustic sound of many folk band but add a twist of uniqueness with their lyrics and style. Very well done.
