Marijuana consumption and death metal? It is a crazy combination on which American death metal Cannabis Corpse have been studying music for the past 12 years. The initial idea came like this...

Phillip Hall, known as a back vocalist and bassist crossover thrash metal band Municipal Waste decided to form a band with his brother Josh Hillhamer. They instantly knew that they wanted to connect their passion for the green plant with their passion for death metal. Phil emphasized in an interview how marijuana had helped him appreciate music even more. It took him several years to pay a music tribute to it.

It all commenced as a parody of another collective. They took their name from death metal veterans Cannibal Corpse, from whom they also got an approval for what they are doing. Even the name of the albums Tube of the Resinated and Blunt at Birth are a spin off of the original band's album titles Tomb of the Mutilated and Butchered at Birth. Yet, Phil and Josh noted that they were never making fun of Cannibal Corpse. It was all an apotheosis. On From Wisdom To Baked, they even featured Chris Barnes, former vocalist of Cannibals.

They have found their inspiration in other bands as well. Their album held guest appearances from Trevor Strnad of Black Dahlia Murder, Ralph Santola of Obituary and Sean McGrath from Ghoul. Cannibal Corpse also took their inspiration from the likes of Morbid Angel, Decide, Death and Entombed.

Just don't be fooled by the band's name. They stand behind some very original and high quality songs. Plus, they are super interesting to see live, so I wish you all the luck in catching these incredible performers in your city.
