Everyone who doesn’t prefer to swear in millions of GB of music on their hard disk is nostalgic about the times when bands released home videos alongside their albums. They were not so easy to find, so the joy was exponential when you would watch it on your friend’s videotape. It is not a secret that I am talking about Pantera’s masterpieces which allowed us to get to know them through the prism of videos and tour recordings, no matter If they were on the top, or on the bottom.
Today, bands communicate with them fans on regular basis via YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. That is why I am happy that one of my favorite modern bands maintained their integrity and decided to tell their story in the relatively old-school manner. I use the term relatively loosely, as I needed to borrow a blue-ray player from my friend to watch the second home video by Killswitch Engage – Beyond the Flames.
At first sight, it looks like it is a video with just a few recordings, but it’s better that I criticize that right way by saying that I find it difficult to believe that they weren’t able to capture their performative essence on the piece of plastic. Anyhow, this is an overview of a band presented through the prism of incredible returns and interpersonal relationships of the people who are famous, but still know what it means to be a regular man.
What can be discovered on this release? First of all, you will find out that even when Joel doesn’t play guitar, he does play guitar, only in different genres and styles. Then, Adam shares his knowledge about craft beers and makes a confession about the period in his life when he had huge problems with his back (which is when the project Times of Graces came to life). If you are a hardcore fan of Killswitch Engage, I think it’s the best that I don’t spoil you everything.
Even though I have watched the perfect blue-ray resolution for the very first time, my biggest impression was that Killswitch Engage succeeded to translate their powerful chemistry onto the screen. We are a family and the members of out tour crew are all are friends. That is Killswitch Engage!
