Narcosatanicos - Body Cults

The Danish noise-rock/psychedelic rock band Narcosatanicos came out with a new album a short while ago via Bad Afro Records. Their previous self-titled album was probably one of the best noise-rock releases of 2014, so their new album ''Body Cults'' had quite a landmark to surpass with their new album. The new album tends to be somewhat different from the material on their self-titled album, perhaps moving more towards the realm of stoner psychedelia in my opinion, while still being the same distinct Narcosatanicos as they were before.

The first track on the album is titled ''Vulvic Church'' and it starts off in a rather psychedelic stoner metal kind of manner, only to move into some more pre-Body Cults Narcosatanicos'esque paths with the mixture of heavy noise rock repetition and saxophone. The second track ''Vile'' starts off with some heavy noise-rock/stoner riffage and fine saxophone bits, while the track also has somewhat of a psychedelic Eastern vibe to it in some parts. Which is kind of surprising. The track sounds almost like a mixture of Narcosatanicos and Goat at some brief transcendant points along the duration of the track - an odd mixture that works pretty well though, and thus this track is perhaps the best on the entire album. ''Mania'' moves along more familiar terrain and packs some fine noise-rock with a complementary sax section. The same exact thing can be said about the fourth track ''Television Dreams'' and the penultimate track ''Void'' as well. Although both of the tracks pack some rather atmospheric psychedelic stoner influences. Something that is quite different from their previous LP. The last track on the album is titled ''Bliss'' and it packs some pretty clear blissful krautrock or repetitive psych rock influences, and this works like a psychedelic jam track in a noise-rock coating. Whatever the case may be the track is a pretty damn awesome one.

All in all ''Body Cults'' packs some solid noise-rock with psych rock and stoner influences from start to finish, and lacks any filler tracks. As was said before then the album is somewhat different from their previous self-titled Brainbombs influenced LP, but nevertheless the new direction works well too. Some of the tracks like ''Bliss'', ''Television Deams'' or ''Vulvic Church'' are really great, while ''Vile'' packs some astonishingly good material. Thus it can perhaps be said that ''Body Cults'' is perhaps one of the best noise-rock releases of 2016.
