Cavity - On The Lam

Cavity is a renowned stoner metal/sludge/stoner doom band from Miami, Florda. They have released a number of great albums through the years, but the best among them is probably ''On The Lam'' - an album that they released back in 2001. Cavity are known for their no-nonsense heavy stoner riffage, and this is also what ''On The Lam'' is all about.

The album starts off with a track titled ''Cult Exiter'' and it offers some highly additive and quite catchy relatively fast paced stoner metal/sludge riffage from start to finish. ''Boxing The Hog'' can be summed up in a pretty similar way, as it offers some fine sludgy stoner metal with an Eyehategod and Weedeater feel to it, but also has an atmospheric part to it among the no-nonsense juicy riffage. The third track ''Sung From a Goad'' again boasts some memorable and addictive Eyehategod'esque stoner metal/southern metal, while the fourth track ''Pulling Up The Stakes'' has a pretty clear-cut Weedeater vibe to it, and thus is probably one of the best songs on this fine album. Another memorable track is ''On The Lam'', which again boasts some extremely addictive heavy stoner riffage, and is perhaps one of the best stoner metal/sludge tracks I have ever heard. ''Leave Me Up'' and ''Sweat and Swagger'' also do their job and tend to be pretty decent tracks, while the album is finished off by a massive track titled ''9''. It starts off with a repetitive bass riff and some astounding feedback that make for a truly mezmerising and explosive concoction. One could say ''9'' is a prime example of a track where minimalist stoner repetition can work wonders.

All in all ''On The Lam'' is an album that really doesn't have faults. Or at least the faults are hidden tucked away in so juicy and heavy stoner metal riffage that finding them is more difficult than finding hay in a needlestack. Thus it is a bit sad that Cavity aren't really as popular as the likes of Eyehategod, Weedeater or Bongzilla, as they definitely should be regarded as one of the best stoner metal/sludge/southern metal bands of all time without a shadow of a doubt. The great thing about Cavity in general is that almost all of their tracks tend to be highly catchy in a good sense and thus memorable with not a lot of fillers and beating around the bush going about. Thus ''On The Lam'' is a landmark album of stoner metal/sludge and worth checking out by anyone who already hasn't done this.
