The time passed by, but the unusual love within Raging Speedhorn is still strong. The love was lost; the presence was lost; even the band was lost at one point. Thumper was a brutal song that allowed them to stand out from the bunch of polished, fake groover bands. Raging Speedhorn were always bigger in UK than anywhere else in the world, so their last album was unnoticed. Truth to be told, it was not as inspiring as some of their earlier efforts.
But, here comes the sun again. Or in this case, here comes tha dark again (in a positive way). The return of Frank Regan into the original vocal duet and the festival performances brought Raging Speedhorn back in shape. Lost Ritual is a sludge dessert that affirms and questions their whole career. Why is that? It is because this is their first album that works as a whole. That’s why it is the summit of their career.
Halfway To Hell is their trademark song, and Lemmy’s sudden death forced them to change their initial plans and include a song simply named Motorhead. Do I really need to describe how that one sounds?
Titles Dogshit Blues and Shit Outta Luck instantly made me smile, and the rhythym and nasty lyrics just prolonged my giggle. There is no empty walk. Over the past eleven years, the band has collected experience, anger, power and self-confidence. All of their emotions are poured into Unleash The Serpent - the epic, heavy and powerful character that closes the album.
Raging Speedhorn bring me nostalgia. Now they also bring something for the future.
