Green Machine or ''Greenmachine'' as they are usually spelled, is a cult Japanese stoner metal/sludge/psych rock band. While all of their albums are pretty awesome, then their best album to date is perhaps ''The Archives of Rotten Blues''. An album that they released back in 2004 and which has been re-released in 2015 with one additional song. Greenmachine are known for their catchy bluesy stoner metal riffage along with some distinct growling vocals and some melodic psychedelic rock parts within this sludge filled stoner metal heavyness.
The album is brilliant from start to finish and thus it is difficult to bring out any tracks that would surpass any other track on this album, and this is why ''The Archives of Rotten Blues'' has become such a cult stoner metal album. The album starts off with a riff-heavy sludgy stoner metal piece ''Black Summer'', only to continue with tracks like ''Punisher'' and ''Anima''. Both of which are good examples of what Greenmachine are all about. And this is stoner metal heavyness with a melodic psychedelic rock coating in parts. ''Fire Never Ends'', ''Burning Door'' and ''Hammer and Burner'' all put forth a similar stoner metal mixture as well, while ''Path Bloody Path'' puts forth a pretty awesome psych rock intro before moving into some heavy riffage as well. In addition to some heavy sludge riffage this track also boasts a pretty cool yet short psych solo which I for one can listen to almost endlessly in repetition. The track is a truly massive one, and so is the almost 10 minute long ''Into The Bigsleep''.
All in all ''The Archives of Rotten Blues'' is one of the prime examples of Japnese psychedelic stoner metal, and it is somewhat sad to see that bands like Church of Misery are much more well-known than Greenmachine. For Greenmachine's stoner metal is no worse than that of Church of Misery or Eternal Elysium.
