I am in love. It is not an immutable love, but it is surprising and powerful. The song Six Years and a Day will be remembered as one of the greatest hits of 2014, with American progressive metal band Wings Denied cementing their royal metal status with it.
Voyager is not their sophomore album. It is an EP made of 5 tracks that reflect the prosperity of a pristine and raven band who enjoys all the logistics, knowledge and attitudes of brutal American metal scene. The vocal is polished, with growling left aside. Guitars are still ubiquitous. Guitars are doing whatever it takes to get you involved.
Trembling Creature is the evidence that Wings Denied is one of these prog bands that do not necessarily sound the best when they are tentative to be hardcore. They are rather mellifluous, especially when they are trying to be themselves. What makes them an aberrant is that they never sound sleazy. And the Lord knows how prog metal bands fall into the trap of sounding quotidian. Catalyst speaks for itself.
This vicious compulsion of ours
A trainwreck of leather and stone
This vicked corrosion of ours
Has your eyes
Begging me for more
Previous lines amplify the divinity of Matches in the Wind, while Traveler’s Course keeps up with the brilliance. Seven-minute long song serves as another herald of the unsaturated prog being the genre that the world deserves.
Can’t wait to see what will they come up with in the future. When you add the tour with Periphery, it’s just a cherry on top. Come on, boys, I dare you to bring us a full-length album.
