Hail to The Deftones

My biggest accomplishment on this album is the fact that I agreed to play on it, said Stephen Carpenter, a hairy metal guy who plays guitar in metal band that is everything but simple. Everlasting fight of the Deftones leaders has brought them to their eight album. Obviously, this was their biggest challenge. When you put interpersonal antagonism aside, you get Gore, a beautiful collection of songs that sound just like they should – brutally good.

It is 2016 and Deftones are following their gut. They are dancing on the graves of all of those bands who competed with them at the beginning of their career. They are not the first band who mixed styles. They are not the first band who supplemented beautiful melodies with guitar riffs. They are certainly not the first band who likes to play it raw, without polishing it with production. They might not be the first, but they are certainly the best in all of the above-mentioned things.

Prayers\Triangles and Doomed User are the least complex tracks on the album and even those sound amazing. Don’t even get me started on mega masterpieces like Hearts\Wires and (L)MIRL. These tracks are living proof that it is impossible not to love Deftones. To make the album even more spectacular, Deftones have called Alice in Chains and Jerry Cantrell to make a guest appearance on it. The song they collaborated on contains something we have never heard from Deftones – guitar solo. It is such a shame that we will never be able to hear this song live.

Chino can try as much as he wants to be loved by electro people, but he will always be loved by metal people. It’s why they have become the band that they are today. I mean, just take a look at their cover with dozens of pink flamingos. It is definitely something you can not expect from Norwegian black metal band. That’s who Deftones are – everything you don’t expect.
