Conceptual Metal

Extreme metal since 1990 is written on Facebook page of Italian dudes called Resurrecturis. This is not the most important thing in this story. What’s important to notify is that even in Italy, a country not really known for music diversity, some cool people form  a metal band in order to spread awareness about the world we live in.

Few EPs during the 90s and few albums during the last two decades have lead them to their fourth album – Nazienda. Combination of words nacism and azienda (Italian word for corporation) created an interesting combination of submetal genres. This is an absolutely unusual theme and concept.

It is not rare for a metal band to write about conspiracy, death, universe or imaginary parallel universe, but Resurrecturis have taken one step further and described one ordinary day of one ordinary office rat. Song meanings are already to be found in song titles. Tracklist takes us from ‘wake up’ part of the day to ‘going to bed ‘part of the day, sometimes in depressive and sometimes in comedic manner.  Altogether, everything is showered by the specter of groove metal, prog escapades, noise, acoustic intros and death metal. Take that, gestalt! It seems like this guys don’t give a fuck about what’s normal and what’s not. They just care about the deconstruction, destruction and synergy.

Oldfield guitars on Sleeping With Your Hair Spread Over My Chest quickly turn to mathcore on The Alarm. Mastodon wakes up on tracks such as On The Way To Work  and Never Happy. Animals In The Meaning Room even samples monkeys, while Col-League-S takes us to metal theatre.

Everything ends slowly, tiresome and depressive. It’s how the main protagonist feels at the end of his day. Falling Asleep On The Couch says it all. Post-apocalyptic atmosphere of music reminded me of one of the best metal instrumental’s – Darkest Hour’s Aequitas Veritas.

Resurrecturis are surprise, that’s for sure. Since this is not highly promoted album, you can not easily discover it. Thank God you have me J
