Intronaut Is the S***

Progressive is not understood by many people and that needs to change. If you are reading this and you have never been listening metal, I have something for you. THIS ALBUM.

It didn’t take a long time for Intronauts to become one of the top-notch bands on progressive metal scene. They have become one of the favorite bands of anyone who is into melodically powerful arrangements. Hype prior to the release of their new album could not have been more cute. We all remember how they begged Ben Sharp to join them on tour. They even promised him to be a supporting band to his Cloudkicker. Maybe that was the reason why their new album The Direction Of Last Things is so hardcore. What a marvelous combo of clean singing and screaming.

When you get served with beautiful singing and screaming in the first minute of the intro track Fast Worms – you just feel this is the peak of their creativity. They have succeeded to combine solo and riff in a remarkable way. They have also managed to connect Mastodon and jazzy guitars with the warmest bass you can imagine. This is especially the case on Digital Gerrymandering.

The Pleasant Surprise is maybe their most powerful track ever, while The Unlikely Event of a Water Landing has a precious sleazy solo I have every heard on this side of the universe. Syncope of Sol Ponticello reminded me of Meshuggah and Tool, and City Hymnal takes you on a 7 minute post metal journey. You have arrived to the destination of vocal triumph. Sometimes, they sound like Jane’s Addiction.

No matter how hardcore and dirty this album is, it will be loved even by those who were fans of their softer and atmospheric sound. The Direction of Last Things is what I expected – the best culmination of everything they teased us with. I have a feeling this is just a beginning. Intronaut are the future.
