American rapper Kendrick Lamar won the award for best music video of the year with "Humble" at the MTV Video Music Awards gala held on Sunday night in Los Angeles.
The 30-year-old also won the award for best hip hop video and starred in one of the most spectacular performances of the night, with his dancers climbing a fence in flames.
Lamar missed, however, the award for best artist of the year, which was for the British Ed Sheeran, while Khalid won the award for best new artist.
Zayn and Taylor Swift for "I Do not Wanna Live Forever (Fifty Shades Darker)", while the best song of the year was considered "XO Tour Llif3" by Lil Uzi Vert.
For the first time a prize was awarded in the category of Best Fight against the System, which MTV granted to the six nominees, among them K'Naan and John Legend, who with their video clips denounced the situation of the immigrants in the United States.
Many artists took advantage of the awards presentation to launch criticism, starting with presenter Katy Perry, who just started making jokes about US President Donald Trump.
