The legendary Cuban musician Benny Moré is remembered in Cuba with concerts and tributes in his hometown of Santa Isabel de las Lajas (Cienfuegos, center), which celebrates in full what would have been the 98th birthday of the mythical "Barbarian of the Rhythm".
The tribute to Moré (1919-1963), considered by many as the best Cuban musician of all time, began this Thursday with a pilgrimage to his tomb, where he will play the concert band of Santa Isabel de las Lajas, town Immortalized by the musician in a famous song and where he asked to be buried.
The Casino of the Congos of Santa Isabel de Las Lajas - a temple of the Yoruba religion to which Moré was attached - will also join the tribute with a drumming to the "Sonero Mayor" and a rumba show, notes a note from the State Cuban News Agency.
The festivities for the anniversary include an exhibition of photos and original documents related to the life and work of the author and singer of "Nice and tasty" and "How it was".
Maximiliano Bartolomé Moré died in Havana and, fulfilling his will, was buried in a marble sepulcher, which reads the inscription "Benny Moré, Lajas, my beloved corner, town where I was born", a phrase of the song he dedicated to his Natal villa
As a "pilgrimage destination" of the musician's followers, the tomb was declared a National Monument in 2009.
Moré, self-taught and who is said to never learn to "read" music, is a myth on the island, where many think that there has not yet appeared an interpreter of the son nor much less a bolerista that surpasses in autenticidad like composer and interpreter .
