Justin Bieber may have canceled a world tour, been expelled from China and issued a public confession of his "mistakes", but still wants to be friendly, if one is guided by his new song.
The Canadian launched "Friends", an apparent plea to an ex-girlfriend so she does not throw it away completely after a breakup, receiving positive reviews and adoration from her fans.
"Can we still be friends?" Bieber asks in the chorus, before singing verses like "I know we did not finish this very well / but you know we had something very good."
"I wonder if you have a body / that hold you more closely since I left / I wonder if you think of me / Actually, do not answer that," sings melancholy the young man who made himself known as a teenager in 2009 with "My World".
BloodPop, for its part, hung the official audio of this new subject in his personal account of YouTube, where he has surpassed in less than 24 hours the 500,000 views.
"Friends" marks the return to Bieber's industry after he canceled his "Purpose" world tour in late July, noting in a brief statement that he was "disappointed".
The theme is a collaboration with producer BloodPop and composers Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter, the team behind their hit "Sorry" from the 2015 album "Purpose."
While Bieber's personal problems have become regular tabloid material, his musical career continues to climb. His remix version of the mega hit "Despacito," by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi, was number one on the US charts for 14 weeks in a row and broke a record for broadcasts in all formats.
However, the 23-year-old singer abruptly cut off his world tour in July, citing "unexpected circumstances."
Days before that announcement, China had reported that Bieber was not welcome in the country because of his "behavioral problems".
In a long Instagram post on Aug. 2, the Canadian admitted that he had let his "insecurities" lead him to make "mistakes." "But what I will not do is let my past dictate my future," he said then.
