Juanes feels helpless in the face of Venezuela's problems
Juanes declared Saturday in Nicaragua that he feels impotent about the situation that Venezuela is experiencing and places his hopes on the pacification of his native Colombia.
In an interview with DPA in Managua, the first stop of a Latin American tour to promote his visual album My plans are amarte , the singer born in Medellín and based in Miami also spoke of that material of his projects.
"Venezuela is a brother and sister country that has been suffering for so long, and has been so deceived. I can only accompany them in that pain and wish them the best," said Juanes.
The artist celebrates a "difficult and complex" peace process that began in his country after almost 60 years of war, amid polarization in the family and society.
He said that he voted for peace in the recent plebiscite, but that his five brothers did so because of the opposite option. "Not because they did not support peace, but because they were against certain conditions of the agreement," he said.
Although he believes that politics will always divide, he believes that his country deserves that opportunity. "Colombia is on the right side of the story," he added.
Winner of 21 Latin grammys and two grammys from the United States, Juanes said he was excited and satisfied with the new album, which cost him two years of intense work, and filming in Mexico and Colombia. In it they participate the Puerto Rican model Joan Smalls, and the Mexican actors Camila Selser and Renato López, that was assassinated shortly after the filming.
"What does My plans mean to love you ?"
"It is the pursuit of happiness for all human beings. It is that connection between future, past and present, expressed through space, astronaut, fiction and the indigenous and terrestrial ancestral part.
"Is it the peak of your career?"
-I do not consider it a top work because I want to continue doing more things that inspire me. But I do feel that this album is something very special for me, because I love the music, the visual part and the final result. It was a very beautiful process in which we work very intensely. And the fact of having a face for each of the songs was very exciting.
-In addition to allowing you to have direct contact with the soul of that story: people, villages, mountains, caves in each place in Mexico and Colombia where they filmed.
-Exactly, and not only that, but you listen to the music, but when you open your eyes and look at the visual, you meet all those who are there: there is the shaman, there is Camila, Renato, Father Javier, the dog ...
"Of your tours of the world, which country has marveled you the most?
"I'm always amazed to know places, because I marvel at the planet Earth. It is the maximum, it is a beauty in its totality. But when I went to Japan, I was struck by the neatness of them, the prudence. These are things we are not used to having. However, I enjoy every place I go, I really like our region and Europe, and obviously my country.
"You said you wanted to do more." What plans are there in your career?
"I really like cumbia, for example. And whenever I travel through Central and South America I hear a lot of cumbia in the street. One of the things I would like to do is a heavy cumbia album, strong. I also love vallenato and tangos, so they are things that I say "What a shame one day I can do something with all that."
-You love planet Earth, but if you could change something of this world, what things would you change?
-I think that in such a rich planet there is too much inequality, and that generates hatred, rejection, violence. That would be the first thing to change. The world is like crazy, and when you see most of the great leaders you realize why they are crazy too.
"And where to begin?"
- Change must start with oneself. One should expect nothing from anyone. It is a change that must come from within, from the heart, from the soul, from the family and from education.
