The hit of Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee premiered last week in the first place of the 100 most heard songs in the United States. "Despacito" became the first song sung in Spanish that reaches this place from "Macarena"

Twenty-one years ago, the "Macarena" had such a success that it became a campaign theme for the Democratic party. This year, "Despacito" could reach similar heights: the hit of Puerto Ricans Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee is steadily gaining the Anglo American market.

"Despacito" topped the streaming music market for the second consecutive week and topped the charts for the third consecutive week, according to Billboard magazine figures released Monday.

In addition, it has spent 16 weeks at the top of the list of Latin hits and the video already adds on YouTube over 1.5 billion views.

Last week, when it debuted at number one in the 100 most-heard songs in the United States, "Despacito" became the first track to reach this place in 21 years, since the success of the "Macarena" Del Río in 1996.

At that time, "Macarena" dominated Billboard's chart of successes for 14 consecutive weeks.

In the remix of "Despacito" that conquered the Anglo market, Canadian Justin Bieber collaborates with some verses in English and singing the chorus in Spanish.

"This is a great achievement not just for Luis Fonsi and me, but for music in general," Daddy Yankee told Billboard last week. "We are crossing cultural barriers and uniting the world through music."

The reggaeton known as Daddy Yankee, whose real name is Ramón Ayala, explained that one of the reasons for the success of "Despacito" is that it has two choirs, both equally catchy.

"The main choir ('Despacito') and the pre-chorus ('pasito a pasito') both have something special that everyone liked," explained the 40-year-old. "They have magic and a melody with which everyone can identify. With the instruments, plus the sound of reggaeton, they have become popular all over the world."

Fonsi, better known for his ballads than for his forays into the reggaeton, recently wrote on Instagram that "music has no language", thanking Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber for their collaborations.

The success of the subject can be felt with the amount of tribute videos circulating on the web. Last week, the clip of three Italian comedians who heard the song in a car pretending to detest it, but then let themselves be won by the catchy of its rhythm.

The video, released in January and co-starring the Puerto Rican Miss Universe Zuleyka Rivera, was Monday's number 24 on the list of the most watched videos in YouTube history. In first it continues being the "Gangnam Style", of the South Korean Psi.
