Luis Miguel surrendered to Los Angeles authorities Tuesday and remains in custody after being sued for a case filed by his former representative.

"Luis Miguel Gallego Basteri turned himself in to Los Angeles authorities," Deputy Chief of Police Matthew Cordova told The Associated Press. According to officials, the singer would appear before a federal judge on Tuesday.

In July 2016, a federal judge in New York ordered Luis Miguel to pay more than a million dollars to his exmanager William Brockhaus. Brockhaus's attorneys sought to enforce the order in Los Angeles, where Luis Miguel owns a home. According to court documents, the singer refused to receive notifications or did not appear at hearings to determine his ability to pay the debt.

Luis Miguel does not have a lawyer listed in the court case and representatives of his label, Warner Latina, did not respond immediately for comments.

The so-called Sol de México is one of the most popular artists in Latin America, with more than 100 million albums sold worldwide, including titles such as "Romance" and "Mexico on the Fur." Among other awards, he has been awarded five Grammys and four Latin Grammys.
