The New York musician Dave Valentin died on March 8, after suffering a stroke from which he never recovered. He was 64 years old, and still a lot to give.
He became interested in the flute in a casual way, as often the visceral elections: chasing love, chose this aerófono, and he stayed for the rest of his days. It is worthwhile, in this context, to limit how Dave Valentin coexisted with the most famous flutists, in a time when the sound of this instrument fascinated the international community, particularly the jazz musicians and, of course, the performers latin jazz, as Valentin itself.
Dave Valentin had among his mentors to celebérrimo Hubert Laws, a strict disciplinarian flutist, whose pure gold flute dazzled fans. Laws owned an exquisite and refined sound, and it was that one of the hooks that used to attract a Dave Valentin that in the mid-70s used to be more interested in the saxophone. And in a matter of sound quality, the flute has a peculiarity: it is she who chooses his performers, and not vice versa. Laws knew Valentin and interested in their practice.
That was how Valentin began a dizzying and wonderful career, alongside great musicians, with whom he shared platforms and recording projects. One of his strengths was precisely crossovers have made great successes. Quite a worshiper of live flute.
