The centenary of La Cumparsita

Uruguay is preparing to celebrate in 2017 the centenary of the tango "La Cumparsita" by Gerardo Matos Rodriguez, perhaps the piece of this genre that has the greatest popularity, as many performances and recordings worldwide.

It was in 1917 when he first played in a bar called La Giralda Montevideo, according to official sources reported.

It is a work that barely reaches three minutes, but impresses by force and cadence of the bandoneon, the main instrument plays the melody.

The piece was inscribed in 2009 on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Unesco.
