British singer-guitarist Greg Lake, considered one of the founding fathers of progressive rock, died Wednesday at age 69 as a result of cancer, his manager said Wednesday. "Yesterday I lost the best friend in a long and hard fight against cancer," Stewart Young wrote today on the official website of former lead singer of the band King Crimson and co-founder of the rock trio Emerson, Lake and Palmer. In March this year had killed his bandmate and friend Keith Emerson.

Lake, rated frequency of one of the founding fathers of progressive rock, was released with titles like "In the Court of the Crimson King" or "I Believe in Father Christmas". Born in the coastal town of Bournemouth, he was inspired by classical pieces by Paganini or the first American rock'n'roll of Elvis. "The best music is made for love, not for money," Lake wrote on its website. Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett lamented his death on Twitter. "Music bows his head to mourn the death of the great musician and singer Greg Lake".
