This week's new program Vice called 'Vice News Tonight' in which decided to give the drummer of The Black Keys, Patrick Carney, premiered on HBO a space to listen and judge the new music coming out in the industry which takes the name 'Patrick Carney's High Music Standards Corner'. In its first edition the musician heard OneRepublic issues, Norah Jones and Testament, culminating with the first single from the new album by Lady Gaga, "Perfect Illusion", which was harshly criticized by the drummer.
One of the things I liked least was the guitar:
"First of all. I hate the guitar sound as well. I'm lost because the guitar on top of all the sound is so shit. It's like "The Eye Of The Tiger" but nowhere near as good as that. It's like Hulk Hogan were playing the fucking guitar.
"I knew once Hulk Hogan and was really friendly and told me:" These fingers have never touched a fret. I was up and down the coast of Florida playing rock and roll, during all the years sixties and never touch a fret. "I thought that was what he was saying. He said he was playing a fretless bass in a progressive rock band or something. Fucking good.
"But the thing is that song grows on me. I've heard now. That's the thing with music: the more you hear something, you like it . That's why the payola works. "
Here is the video to see the discomfort of Carney listening to the topic:
