On this day on August 3 the birth of composer and guitarist Antonio Lauro guayanés (Ciudad Bolivar, Venezuela, 1917) is commemorated.
The beauty of an author like Lauro is what it means within the Venezuelan musical culture: if Alirio Diaz, guitarist died recently, was the first performer of international stature who had Venezuela in the twentieth century, Antonio Lauro was the author whose music made Diaz feat possible.
Lauro has many works, beautiful and technically important for guitarists. So much so, that many of his works are binding study in music schools throughout the world. In fact, upon entering YouTube classical guitarists you can get riding video with the works of Lauro, from multiple nationalities.
One of his most famous works is the waltz "Natalia", also known as "Valse Venezolano No. 3", composed in honor of his daughter Natalia, in 1939. This work is built on three parts, and each begins with a arabesque characteristic linked notes, which quickly evoke barely hear. Often, guitarists make that gesture start and not continue, and listeners and immediately grasp what work is all about. Yesterday, guitarists the world we know Lauro (all Venezuelans certainly) played yesterday, "Natalia" as a tribute to Lauro. And it is something that is done, both in public concerts and privacy. That is, if the August 3 guitarist has a concert, you can expect that will touch "Natalia", or as part of the repertoire or as an encore. And if it does, it will play at home the work. It is a beautiful tacit agreement.
From today until August 3, 2017, will come the preparations to celebrate the centenary of Lauro, an event that will unite more musicians and fans of the guitar.
