In 1987 , four teenagers from Palm Desert in California decided to join in a project influenced by the arid environment of his hometown, the anger of hardcore punk of The Misfits and Black Flag accompanied by the dark sound of psychedelic of the sixties ending with the tonala touch of down style of Black Sabbath that end to define the sound of guitar very young Josh Homme whose density would be accentuated by the use of fuzz and bass amplifiers.
They passed the Son of Kyuss Katzenjammer and names (under which they recorded an EP) to finally get with the recording of their first album in 1991 called Wretch Kyuss. Wretch is a good sample of their music but their characteristic live sound that enveloped the "generators parties" made in remote desert areas between beers, pills and joints would be taken to his recordings thanks to producer Chris Goss (Masters of Reality) who begins to work with the "stoners" for their second album Blues for the Red Sun coming out in 1992, his lyrics always focused on issues of psychological nature, space travel, astral projections, infighting, the road and of course the use of substances.
His third album Welcome to the Sky Valley sue his ode to the desert that saw them grow as individuals as well as a band starting with the impressive riff Gardenia is a complete journey through the sound decinió a subgenre of rock sometimes unknown to most followers: the stoner rock.
The band released an LP more ... And the Circus Leaves Town in 1995 and as the circus left town Kyuss disappeared from the rock scene to dissolve definitively. For their ranks passed musicians John Garcia, Brant Bjork, Scott Reeder, Alfredo Hernandez, Nick Oliveri and Josh Homme, the last three founders of the agurpación Queens of the Stone Age still headed by Homme who also form projects like Desert Sessions, Eagles of Death Metal and Them Crooked Vultures in which he shared with Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighter) and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin).
My recommendation: take a cold beer, turn on the player and get comfortable for the trip.
