Lemmy Kilmister, lead singer of British rock band Motorhead heavy, died of prostate cancer. A statement from the group on their official Facebook profile revealed that Kilmister, who died Dec. 28 at age 70 in Los Angeles (California), was notified of the disease two days before his death. Kilmister had long been facing various health problems that forced him to reduce his intake of alcohol and snuff.

Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister was born on December 24, 1945 in Stoke-on-Trent (England) and started playing bass and interested in music in the sixties. In the mid-seventies he founded the Motörhead band, which would become an indisputable reference sound heavy with Lemmy on bass and vocals, Eddie Clarke on guitar and Phil Taylor on drums, who died in June last year to 61 years old. Motörhead debuted in 1977 with a self - titled album, but were albums like Overkill (1979) or Ace of Spades (1980) which gave them great popularity worldwide within the rock harder and accelerated.

The formation of the band experienced many changes in almost four decades in which he has been active, but Lemmy always stayed ahead of the group since it was founded until his death. Rock stars and Hollywood family gathered for his funeral earlier this month.
