Laura Marling Simply Can Not Avoid Bringing Her A Game

If someone asked me who is the most brilliant female singer in the world right now, few names would pop in my mind. The following review talks about one of them.

The previous album by British musician Laura Marling, Short Movie, came out in 2015 and it ended up in top 10 lists of almost any relevant music publication out there. This is why we all had major expectations regarding her new record titled Semper Femina. After numerous repeats, I can only conclude that this young, talented lady did not disappoint.

Collection comprised of 9 new songs is deeply intimate, sophisticated, vulnerable and candid vision of the female universe with all its advantages and flaws. Woven into sensual vocal, the music of the twenty seven year old singer is discreetly arranged. The string instruments are prominent, as Laura decided to return to the characteristic folk expression. She also kept the rock energy from the predecessor.

Every song on the album contains a subtle moment that wins your heart with irresistible char. To be honest, all of my senses were soothed, so I have no choice but to proclaim this record as the album of the spring 2017. The songs such as The Valley with paradise violins took me to some mystic landscapes where time-space continuum is non-existent. The sound of guitars of Wild Once and Always This Way brings undeniable comparisons to Joni Mitchell, while almost spoken-word number Wild Fire radiates with soul shine. The closing track Nothing, Not Nearly is basically based on electronic sides of the instrumentals. Nouel resembled Neil Young due to its blues vibe.

One of my favorites is jazz-rock ballade Soothing, with bass in the epicenter. It brings Portishead to mind. A dreamy Next Time might be the most affectionate track on the record. Wow, I think I reviewed every song on this album, which just proves how good it is. With her sixth full-length release, Laura Marling continues to impress. I wouldn’t be surprised this work of art appears at the top of the year-end charts.
