Railway Gamblers Deserve More Attention

Sometimes, good things are buried deep down in the entropy of the world and you find them by accident. This is especially the case with the music today. It is a prolific time when hyper production overfloods the internet. Luckily, I accidentally discovered a band from Chicago called Railway Gamblers.

After only the first couple of seconds of their second album Shadow Of The Moon, I knew that this is going to be one of those albums that instantly hit your g spot. It was a peculiar experience, since I did not expect anything from the reproductive and sluggish Americana genre to strike me .

If I could compare Railway Gamblers with other artists, Bob Dylan and Neil Young are the first ones to pop up in my mind. There is also a little bit of Ryan Adams.  Still, Shadow Of The Moon gives a new, dramatic note to the music world by incorporating a storytelling in their songs. It is what makes you listen to the album on the repeat. When you know how small this band is, and realize how brilliantly they play with the music tricks, you are left wondering why they didn’t become famous outside Chicago.

From the opening track, these four guys pushed all of my buttons. The album comprises a plethora of tunes that could easily become smashing hits on alternative radio stations, If only the band had someone to push them.

Lost One Around and Over and Over are tracks that will be appreciated by Wilco fans, while the rest of the album is a bit more intriguing, although less catchy.  A very suggestive vocal guides you through the record, soothing the obvious charisma with the undeniable music talent. Listen to Time Catches Up With You and you will know exactly what I am talking about.

You can love Americana. You may not love Americana. If you want to hear something good, this is what you should put on your playlist. It is a full-blooded modern album.
