Autumn Is Coming

Dashing bearded guy with the suggestive falsetto and a guitar. This would be a perfect title for the movie about The Leading Guy, my new favorite spaghetti singer-songwriter whose sticky vocal is currently helping me get through some personal hardships.

Albeit the guy behing The Leading Guy is Italian, his work stems greatly from American tradition. Simone Zampieri is the man who has been circling around for quite some time, but it wasn’t until 2015 that he released his first album. Memorandum is not a philosophical piece. It is an introspective sojourn. Memorandum is my top recommendation for everyone around the world who is waiting for the autumn to come.

Acoustic guitar and intermittent piano lead the listener through the emotional territories, vulnerable terra incognita, and lands of lost friendships and failed relationships. Zampieri is attracted to Bob Dylan and Lou Reed, and the sensitive ears of music critics will also register Cat Stevens as the cardinal influence.

While The Dogs Are Barking could bring Zampieri closer to those who do not listen to the authors, while hardcore lovers of indie-folk could condemn him because of the over-singing melody. I absolved him thanks to the following lines:

I’ve seen so many churches

But I can’t believe in god

But when I found my spirits

My friends just drank them all

On My Grandmother’s Grave is one of the most forlorn songs I have heard in a while, notwithstanding the exuberant melody. To See As The Good Sees is an equivocative story about a cathartic hedonism.

Zampieri’s songs are bonhomie in loneliness and stillness. Memorandum is just what all of us need for the upcoming fall.
