Garage Psychedelic

The name of Night Beats is a hommage to Sam Cooke. These boys were touring with The Black Angels, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Zombies, Black Lips and other. Why am I saying this? Well, because this time they are really into rock n roll garage sound. First two albums were equally influenced by garage rock with the spark of soul and psychedelic. Vocal was always strong but still soft enough to pull soul layers. It is the first thing you will notice on their third album – a real garage rock vocal. Something like Jack White or the lead singer of The Black Keys. It’s all about guitars and riffs.

Who Sold My Generation falls somewhere in between Tame Impala and The Black Keys. The mixture of psychedelic and garage rock sounds really good and it sucks you in the twirl after the first listen. You can not avoid the impression of Alabama Shakes as well.

No Cops is the first track to stand out. Everything is in its right place here. The second track I really liked is Sunday Mourning and it is a bit bipolar. On the first hand, it sound easy and low key but, at the same time, rhythym and aggressiveness are there. Definitely the most psychedelic one. These two numbers are pretty much the essence of the record. Other strong stuff include Bad Love and Last Train To Jordan because you can not save your ears from all those amazing guitars. Vocal is also impressive here. It never goes to the extreme, it never explodes. I wonder how would songs sound like If it did.

Turn The Lights is very similar to The Black Keys while Shangri Lah reminded me of The Black Angels. There are no weak spots on the album because everything makes sense. Night Beats are worth of our attention.
