I must freely say that the best and the most creative days are behind TV On The Radio but I must also say that they are maturing greatly and they are feeling at home with the sound that made them famous. Their earliest albums were something fresh in alternative rock world so no wonder the fuss was big. As the time went by, they proved themselves again and again as an interesting group that knows what they want and how to create what they want.
Released at the end of 2014, Seeds was their fifth album that came out three and a half years after Nine Types Of Light. At the beginning, songs are softer, made of all those ornaments that give them uniqueness. As the album goes on, it starts releasing itself from experimental chains. Ride is the closest sound to the commercial hit they have ever put out.
Opening Quartz is saturated with many vocal acrobations and clap of the hands provides it with a rhythm. Careful You has a characteristic background that promoted them in the early days of their career, while Happy Idiot is one of the best choices for the first single. In popular music, we often see how 80s are being recycled. Many fall into traps. Right Now is an example that you don’t need to use copy-paste method in order to create something memorable. This winter was strong so I was listening to the Winter a lot. This track is another evidence that TV On The Radio are experts when it comes to melodic distortions of guitars. Lazerray is a note to Weezer: This is how alternative rock can kick ass.
I can’t wait for their next album. Time after time, they showed how they can enrich the original element with something personal and refreshing. Truth to be told, they are more up to commercial tunes but there are still a lot of tiny elements that will spark your brain.
