Bay Area rapper Keak Da Sneak who has been in the music game since the nineties was reportedly a victim of gunfire last Friday 20th of January 2017. Unfortunately details of the incident are sparse, with the only known source being the Instagram postAll Bay Music Magazine’s where they posted the news and wished the rap veteran a speedy recovery from his injuries. As per the Instagram post the rapper is doing just fine.
In addition to this news Keak shared a video of himself stepping on stage (which was reportedly filmed after the incident had taken place) with a cane which seemingly confirmed the injury. The seemingly shaken rapper commented that “You’ll never understand how valuable life is until it flash before ya eyes,” he wrote. “[God’s] plan can never be determined by man an fa that I’m still livin’ an[d] can’t nothin on this earth stop me!” which acts as further confirmation that he indeed did go through some experience which made him reflect on the value of his life.
The 39 year old has been instrumental in helping to shape the West Coast, Bay Area rap scene which has been a hub for great music and is dominated by rappers such as E-40, Mac Dre, Planet Asia, Too Short, Luniz, Mista F.A.B., Spice 1, T-Bone and more recently G-Eazy. Keak has released 23 solo studio albums since 1999 and an additional 6 collaborative albums for a total of 29 albums under his notch. That’s a large discography indeed. This 24th solo studio album titled Copium II is yet to be released and the details of the release date are unknown as of now. He has not released any full-length project since 2012, the year in which he released Cheddar Cheese I Say.
Hopefully some good will come out of the negative situation which could have been worse. We don’t need to lose another talented rapper to gun violence. The situation and sober mind might inspire Keak to write some new, deep, introspective, heartfelt music. One of his most recent musical appearances was on the remix to Mista F.A.B.’s song Still Feelin’ It which is a tribute track to Mac Dre, a deceased Bay Area rapper who was shot dead following a dispute over payment for a club appearance in 2004. The song also features other prominent west coast rappers; the iconic Snoop Dogg, G-Eazy, Nef The Pharaoh, Iamsu! and Ezale. It came out last November.
