Hillsong’s great song “Mountain” displays the message of Christ to all believers and those who don’t. It portrays Jesus as the stone the builders rejected. Sometimes I recall this line when I feel that I’ve been rejected. It happens. The song reminds us repeatedly of the hope that has come and is to come in our lives. “All creation welcome home…” The line keeps repeating in my mind as something to look forward. We see a light in the darkness. That light in the darkness is the one and only Jesus Christ.
This beautiful song of hope is off of Hillsong’s United album. Go give it more than a few listens and it will give you faith and hope to carry on. If you are sad, weary, depressed, drained, or down and out, let this song encourage you that Jesus Christ is still at the right hand of the father on His throne. He is our living stone. Everything we do is for His glory, not just our own. He is our sure foundation, our hope of Glory.
I have had the distinct pleasure of playing this song on keyboards at a local church and it is so powerful. Talk about being moved to tears when they start singing, “We cry holy, holy, holy. We cry holy is Your name.” That is such a great promise when we feel like there are so many closed doors in life. We have to be thankful for what we have and the holiness of God even makes some of the hardest hearts come in awe of Him and His promises for our lives.
All the synthesizers muddy of the basic texture of the song. It is also very good acoustically done without all the synthesizer trappings. The synthesizer just accentuates (or over-accentuates) the beauty that already exists. However, it is really expertly recorded to reduce the peaks of muddiness.
I love the fact that the song starts off simple with some guitars and a synth pad. Then, after the mighty climax of the “holy, holy, holy” part, the texture returns to the simple synth pad and maybe a piano single (whole tone). It is expert artistry that allows one to pull this off.
One of my favorite parts that recurs often is the “For your glory, heart and soul, surrendered all, to build a home…” This whole section is one of my favorite building passages that culminates in that beautiful, whimsically chocolate covered, synth-laiden goodness. Chocolate covered? Really? Not really. I have to believe in music that is in the ether that sounds like what it’s going to sound like when Jesus returns. All the synthesizers in the climax come close to this very sound. Are there more songs like this? Sure, but this one is one of the best out there right now. It is a good song to remind us that Christ’s message is supreme to anything that we are going through. Be inspired! Lift up your hands and praise the Lord.
