ANOHNI Vs Blonde Redhead

Consider following review as a double review, rather than a battle between two EPs. There are not easy to compare, anyway.

Anohni:

Ten months after praised debut Hopelesness, Anohni gae us new release Paradise that serves as a continuation of socio-political activism and castigation of modern society. Winning combination should not be changed, which is why Daniel Lopatin is responsible for production once again. He is famous as Oneohtrix Point Never, and Hudson Mohawke. Musically, experimenting with electronic is still in the spotlight. Catchy beats and singable choruses are supported by sensual and passionate vocal that is infected by anger and dissatisfaction with the status quo in the world.

Anohni reflects on the position of woman in the society from the perspective of her new gender identity. She is questioning her role in the present moment. She is also questining unsatiable need of politicans to collect material things and to demonstrate power. Wars, religious, identity,…everything is there. Anohni attacks in direct and uncompromising manner. Long story short, If you liked Hopelesness, you are also going to love Paradise

Blonde Redhead:

Mini album by a New York trio Blonde Redhead was my repeat record of the previous winter. In my humble opinion, 3 O’Clock would fit perfectly as a soundtrack for anyone’s cold, winter nights. I was always pulled and moved by their music, especially when the coldest season of the year would come. I don’t know why, but I don’t see them as a summer band. So, maybe you should wait for the winter. Anyhow, the first two songs on the EP warm you like a blanket due to Kazu Makino’s vulnerable and sensual vocal.

Track Golden Light, over 6 minutes in length, hynpnotizes with its fairytale atmosphere. I might proclaim this one as the best on the whole record. The title track is a succesful Warpaint-Feist combination. On the rest of the album, Amadeo Pace takes the lead and makes a standing-ovation deserving impression. His gorgeous tone intertwines with fantastic instrumentals in Where Your Mind Wants To Go. Similar happens with the interplay of percussions and his vocal on Give Give. In slow motion fashion, this song represents a modern mix of r’n’b and swing sound.

So, save this for the winter, but If you are a fan of Blonde Redhead, your summer night have just became more hot.
