A Kaleidoscopic Trance

Song reviewed by:

"Horizon" follows "Epoch" as the second single from Intelligent Dance Music (IDM) maestro Tycho's (San Francisco-based producer and graphic artist Scott Hansen) recent album Epoch (2016) - which is the final installment of the trilogy of albums that began with Dive (2011). While Hansen had previously promised that the new album would explore "darker themes and new musical territory", "Horizon" largely recreates the meditative, airy, dance-inducing and trance-like ambient music aesthetic that Tycho is best known for.

A live animation video for the song has recently been released, featuring original work from Neil Krug and cinematography from Charles Bergquist. It lends brightly coloured abstract visuals and mutating shapes that evoke the track's kaleidoscopic and kinetic journey into a chilled-out state of mind.
